Jenna rang, she had a successful meeting at work.

Mon 12 Feb 11° La Azohia Beach
Different day today, warm, no wind, grey sky, light spots of rain, walked around other side of bay to the end of the fishing port, dates all over the ground and beach from the date palms that line the length of the bay.
We stopped for a coffee on the way back and arrived just before the rain came, it was forecast and quite nice with the gentle pitter patter on the roof without the follow through drips from any trees.
Met Michelle the dog lady in a camper with a great Danes and a lurcher cross.
This whole waste land area owned by the Spar shop next door and is up for sale 1000sqm. Great business opportunity for someone, it would make a very lucrative Aire with a little bit work.
We watched the last episodes of the Killing....so many red herrings and wild goose chases we didn't see the ending coming.....very well done, whoever thinks these things up has some imagination that's for sure.
Turkey, veg Thai and rice.

Sun 11 Feb 11° La Azohia beach
A still day, no wind, only watched 2 episodes last night, they are padding it out a bit now getting off main story line.
Sat in the sun it was a lovely temperature. Phone call from Sue, lovely to chat and have a catch up, hopes to see us again before we leave.
What a lazy day in the sun all day, not burning at all like NZ sun, the crashing waves serenade us while we talk and read our books. This is a really relaxing holiday within our adventures, a day in the winter sun, lovely jubbly.

Sat 10 Feb 12° La Azohia Beach
Finished my book, Dan Brown -Deception Point...very good.
We went for a long walk around the bay, on the way back the cafe bar next door was open, so we thought we had better support the local economy. We had coffee and it was such a sun trap and so pleasant right on the sea front we had a refreshing beer each then watched some locals play bouls on the beach.
Omelet, fried potatoes and tomato salad for dinner prepared and cooked by the skipper.
Ireland thrashed Italy 56 - 19 in 6 Nations today.

Fri 9 Feb 7° San Jan de los Terreros - La Azohia Beach near Mazzaron
Clear blue sky again, getting used to this....still a cold wind but the sun is warm in sheltered spots...pretty good for winter. Very relaxing being able to take our time with no particular place to be, enjoying our last couple of months touring Spain.
We drove down along the water front, still quite unspoilt, sandy beach and very Spanish, no high rise hotels like further up the coast Benidorm and Alicante , we are heading that way so will see for ourselves.
We pulled in at Animal service station, very good services, €2 for fresh water and waste dump, queue of people wanting water, spoke to an English woman who has lived in Barcelona for 35 years, she said it unusually cold as it has snowd all over Spain even in Barcelona yestereday.
Driving on we saw the spring blossom on the trees, we were winding our way on the road cut between the hills, would have been the main road, before they built the toll road. Very good surface kept in good repair, lots of abandoned houses , a bus passed us but very little other traffic. Then into the growing area, plastic greenhouses for miles and fields of lettuce's, then suddenly more traffic and a built up area. Then the blue ocean again as we came parallel with the toll road.
Into our free wild camp for tonight, stoney gravel on a hill side beside a restaurant and Cafe bar. Huge area with about 50 motorhomes, lots of room for more. A fresh water tap on the beach front and a drain for waste, a Spa shop next door open in the mornings and a bread van that comes round every day with bread and lots of different cakes and pastries.
La Azohia Beach is between Mazzaron and Cartagena right down on a point in the Mediterranean. A gorgeous bay with paved promanade and again unspoilt, most restaurants and bars are closed until 15th Feb or March when it probably starts to get full of holiday makers.

Warm sunny day, lots of motorhomes around. Stayed up till 1am last night watching the last episodes of season 1 The Killing, very gripping....thanks Jenna and Alex, look forward to season 2....will try to just watch one or two per session haha.
Walked to see where other motorhomes had parked, just parking bays up a side street. So many parking spaces around probably to service the area in summer, lots of houses and apartments at differing stages of completion.
Found a sunny cafe restaurant and stopped for coffee and Tapas 4 different ones very tasty €10 including 4 coffee's. There was a massive Chinese Euro Market that kept on going...how they make any money is amazing.
Came back and read our books, warm and cosy in Bessie.

Wed 7 Feb 10° Vera Beach - San Juan de los Terreros
We sat up till midnight watching episodes of The Killing...very good series.
Lovely sunny day but still the cold wind.
Drove on today along the coast road, very baron, stoney hilly landscape, then fields of lettuce being picked by workers for market.
Lunch at beach, but sign saying no moho camping. I had 5 possible stops along the coast, but either not suitable, full or no camping signs.
Onto Aguilas Harbour, several motorhomes here.
Went for a walk, met a girl advertising the Castle restaurant up on the hill, menu del dia 4 course €10 with free bus up and back. Carried on along the harbour, found a sunny spot in a cafe and had a coffee , decided to go to the castle for the menu . Back to Bessie, got gussied up, locked up walked across the car park....sign saying no moho camping. Most of the other motorhomes had left while we were on our walk. Decided not to risk it....so got back in and drove to Aire at Mercadona supermarket which had a waste point.
Drove, round......and round......back.....and forth.....and dried and were told no have to go back to service station aire €7 with waste and water.
Arrived aire looked full, queue at water and waste area in service station. Very nice French and in front had paid €2 at service station for the key, said he would share so Tony gave him €1 and we used the facilities....while there a German lady waiting to empty said this Aire not very nice, go back 3 km to Caroline Bay free.
So we drove back, found 3 areas where motorhomes were parked on very rough, stoney or sandy ground, drove very carefully through the whole area but it was pretty full and we didn't feel comfortable on the surface. So again we drove on....getting late now but we fluked this place, just saw motorhomes parked up, so pulled in behind. It was warm and sunny with no wind.

Sat up till 1am watching the rest of The Killing series....very gripping...thank you Jenna and Alex.....will try to ration the season 2 episodes haha.
Lots of motorhomes at the end either side, soooo glad we did come here, there was a terrific thunder storm with very heavy rain....wheewww so relieved not at the beach on that sandy stoney ground.

Tues 6 Feb 10° Vera Beach
Morning exercise class doing stepping up and down the kerb, front back, side and knee up, hilarious watching 12 people trying g to keep in time with the instructor, but good on them, no we didnt join them, we just sat and watched.
We went for a walk the sun was warm out if the wind, found a Consume supermarket surrounded by new development being built, looks like it will be a shopping precinct to cater for all the apartments and hotels around here, mostly empty this time of year.
Very nice supermarket, whiskey honey liqueur for €8.69.
Back to Bessie had bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes on pita toast for late lunch.
Sat at the back of Bessie trying to get in the sun but out of the wind,ok for a little while then the sun went behind the clouds the cold wind picked up and everyone went in haha.
Loud shouting and dog Barking, Tony went to see what the commotion was, apparently the older French man who had a converted truck, had his dog tied up and another Frenchman walked too close and the dog barked and growled and the guy didn't like it so they had a shouting Match. Bit of excitement for a little while, Tony got chatting to a British couple but had to come in it was rather nippy out there. No harm done just a lot of noise.

Last minute jobs, office open at 10am, paid for our 20 days €370, farewelled Colin and Pat.
Drove to Garrucha for LPG .67c €10.59 16 ltrs plus checked tyres, all good, no ties on the hub caps, must have been taken off at service, just noticed. So will put more on.
Onto Hispavan with help of phone gps for ACSI book to get discount card at ACSI campsites €16.95 , only need to use it twice and get money back, good value. They only had Spanish or French copies, got a French one as the card is the same, will see if we can swap it when we get to an ACSI site.
After we left went to Lidl for stock up, had turned off wifi but left the phone data on whole time at Lidl. eeeeekkkkk that's gonna cost....my bad.
Drove on to Vera Beach, went for a walk, sunny but very, very cold wind. Made a homemade vege soup for dinner.
Young man in a car parked next to us, very clean and shaved, so has access to wash facilities but sleeps in his car, had silver screens over all his windows, felt sorry for him.

Sun 4 Feb 8° Mojacar
Happy 44th wedding anniversary Pat and Les.
Cold grey day, good for washing the bird poo off Bessie. Turned into a full clean 4 man job with Colin and Pat helping, borrowed ladders and camp hose and a few laughs. Good as new, helped Colin with his but he only wanted the top done with use of ladder, but a good mornings work.
After lunch Tony walked up to the Irish Rovers to meet Colin for the England Italy game and Pat came back, no drinks today.
Tony came back after the game and we went to Trufi bar for last night's meal here. Decided to definately move on tomorrow.

Sat 3 Feb Mojacar
Moving day today in our little corner of the camp, Luke and Mario left, Colin and Pat took their spot and we moved sideways from under the trees to where they had been and bit more sun.
I put the toast on, went to the rubbish bin, got chatting to a new couple from Devon looking to get a bigger moho....then all hell let loose.....our smoke alarm was screaming and smoke was bellowing out of Bessie, Tony was standing outside with the toaster tray with black charcoal remains...eeekkkk......I am not safe to be let out when cooking!!!
No damage done opened all windows and vents and the smell and smoke soon left....the couple came for a look but didn't ask how much haha.........alls well that ends well.
1pm we walked with Colin and Pat to Martin Moarles restaurant, it was warm and sunny so sat outside. Excellent meal, €15 for menu.......soooo many choices of starters, mains, and deserts or ice creams. Very generous portions too, so a real feast pre rugby....good job they weren't playing they wouldn't have got round very quick after that feast haha.
Complimentary individual round loaf with large bowl of garlic aoli, then complimentary little warm cheese balls which were delicious. Tony had whitebait entre but it came out a very large serving of fish more like sardines certainly not what we call whitebait, I had scallop in sort of a chowder which was very tasty and several of his fish. Colin had black pudding in filo wraps,Pat had deep fried goats cheese with fig chutney. For main, I finally got my fish feast, moist fillet of hake with, mussels, clams and squid in a tomato sauce. Tony had pork ribs and sliced Spanish potatoes, Colin had duck fillets and Pat had an enormous lamb shank......so the dogs got a treat as well.
So many varieties of ice-cream and deserts, I had lemon and lime ice-cream cake, very refreshing, Tony had cheesecake with blueberry ice-cream, Colin had a very large price of carrot cake with ice-cream and Pat had fig ice-cream. All very delicious, the restaurant was chocker full inside as well as out, obviously a favourite of the locals as well. Definately recommend.
After a delay in paying as they were so busy, Tony and Colin were going to be late for the kick off, Pat and I walked back then she took the girls for a long walk and I finished my DCI Banks book.
They were going to have a Pie and pint for €6 but were both so full they could only manage 2 half's.

Last washing day, filled water etc, said goodbye to Peter and Wendy, gave them a new site a Mar Menor opening special €7, may see them there. Luke and Mario the Belgians were going there as well tomorrow.

Pat and Colin came back from walking the girls and drink at Irish Rovers came in for a drink and discuss plans for rugby tomorrow. They left and went for chips at the German bar then pizza, their Friday night dinner.

Thurs 1st Feb 12° Mojacar
Where did January go......met Wendy and Peter from London in a Mondail campervan showed us inside and had a long chat for couple hours, they have been travelling for 30 years off and on. Peter was 80 still cycling although he did have an electric bike but Wendy cycled up to the Pueblo with him leading the way on his electrics haha. Very interesting couple, talked about travel, politics, the state of UKetc.
