Mon 1st May 9°Amsterdam to Keukenhoff

Showers today and the Aalsmere flower market closed on public holidays, so onto the Keukenhoff Gardens. Rain is forecast until Thursday so it may be a wet viewing.

Round and round we go , road closed, diversion, another road closed, managed to manuever our way out around major road works only to be taken through the bloody city centre agrrrh , dodging trams, cyclists, rubbish trucks.....too late....close encounter with a bus...Tony's wing mirror gone....pulled over, I got out to run back thinking it had come off in the road,  then Tony yelled and it was safely intact,  just had folded back on itself on impact...whewww...we hate driving in cities...uggghhhh.

Arrived at Keukenhoff Gardens and the sun came out.....yeah....we had lunch and I went in leaving Tony to recover from his altercation with the bus.

As people have said before, millions of flowers, in all shapes, sizes and colour combinations. Truly stunning,  well laid out with meandering pathways, canals, bridges, little inclines to get a higher view ,shops cafes and  free wc's....although I did get an unwanted surprise in the loo, came out to wash my hands and my finger felt very painful, there was a wasp clinging to my finger...I shook it off...very painful experience but glad the sting wasn't anywhere else....being in a toilet...eeekkkk.

Scented flowers mixed in with all manner of flowers adding to the whole sensory experience, almost overwhelming with variety, colour, shapes and spectacular planting layouts.  I went crazy with the photos so have made a new album just on the Keukenhoff Gardens,  but here are a few.

Worth every penny of the €16 entry and €6 car park.

Our park for the night by a canal, and fields of Tulips that are past their best, but still a very pleasant place to park for night.....and the bonus being it is free.

Pork cordon bleu tonight....pre done...so not sure what's in it...thought we would try it for a change.

Lots of cyclists riding along the canal and lots of motorhomes keep coming in to find a space. Farmer carrying out late afternoon spraying  of the remains of the tulips.
