Fri 2 Feb 5° foggy

Rain and windy overnight but cosy inside.
Drove to L'Abbaye Troglodytique des saint Roman, but a 3.1m height restriction down a terrible track, so unable to go further.

Carried on to L'abbaye Saint Andre at Villeneuve les Avignon. The sun tried to come out through the fog and the day cleared. This is a 10th century abbey/fort, which reigning kind built so he could see over the Palace of the Popes. Big climb up to top to get great view.

Then walked down to the monastery of Chartreuse, named after the monks who came from Grenoble where they concocted  the drink from mountain herbs from that region.

Walked back through quaint village and town square, where we bought the obligatory baguette for lunch.

From here we drove to Chateauneuf du Pape appellation.  On entering applelation vehicle restrictions 3.5 tonne, sorry Les .

Found a park and walked up through village tonne chateau ruins, where Tony walked the vines, studying the 13 varieties grown in this region. You can take the man out of the wine, but you can't take the wine it of the man, The Grape Escape  haha.

Walked back through village with fighter jets roaring over head, wondered what  they were up to.  We visited the Museum of Wine, where we had an audio tour of the history of Cote du Rhone and Chateauneuf Du Pape followed by anudiondd wine tasting. All of this was free including a tasting of a special presentation bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape, so felt were had to support tourism of the area by purchasing 2 bottles, a Rose and a delicious Red.

Got back to Bessie just before rain and thunder.

Another great day of adventures, even if we didn't get to the underground troglodytes Abbey.
