Sun 17 Sept 12° Wick to Tain

Lovely morning to walk around the old town of Wick. Thomas Telford appears once again here as he did in Ullerpool, he designed the layout of the village.  Oliver Cromwell also appears on a plaque at the Camps Bar which is where they set up camp for the troops before invading the Castle. So much history all over UK.

Drove on to meeting place with Pat and Les  Helmsdale Harbour further down the East coast. Very rural down this side, North Sea Oil platform off the East Coast. Stone walls once again line the roads and buildings made of the grey stone from around the area. Warmed up to 13° as we drive down 13° gradient road then up 13° gradient road, giving Bessie a workout today. Past the Thomas Telford designed bridge over very  bumpy corrugated road surface. After lunch we decided to go on to Links at Tain for the stop tonight.

We past fields of golden hay some with bales already harvested,  through the old village of Golspie,  Dunrobin Castle and stone houses. The East coast much less dramatic scenery, more farmland, sheep and cows grazing. Tree lined winding roads, climbing and twisting round the coastline.

Our free park tonight was through the industrial area, over a little bridge then it opened up to waterfront and playing fields, good for the dogs.

Pat and Les arrived shortly after, Tony took the dogs for a walk to give Pat  break, she came in for a coffee and a chat. They will go to Cairngorms National Park tomorrow and we will go to Loch Ness and Inverness.

Pork and apple sausages for dinner, from shop at Melton Mowbray.
