Tues 12 Sept 13° Dunvegan to Tower Hill near Portree, Skye

Pats birthday dawned dry, sunny with blue sea and sky. Egg and bacon for breakfast, did the domestics then the sky turned grey and showers started.

Very narrow one lane road with small passing bays, past fields of tussock  and end of the heather now turning brown. Jagged cliffs and cattle grids and pot holes. Sheep with their tails still on and belive it or not this is a bus route..

Plan A at Staffin, definitely a no go, far too narrow and rocky, Plan B Kilton Rock, full, drove on to Portree,  pretty coloured houses quaint little town but no where to park.

Just outside town happened upon a site with motorhomes,  caravans and tents, drove down, £15 with services,  toilet and shower block, all on chunky, rough cut stones, but level and dry. Fabulous scenery between Bienn Na Grieve and Ben Tianavaig mountains as it was now 5pm we all decided to stay.

Aged sirloin from the farm near Melton Mowbray perfect treat for Pats birthday dinner.

The sky was thick with midges, poor young couple opposite in a camper, had their bbq and swiping away madly at midges, gave up and jumped in their van, then came out again.

Lots of hikers and walkers, hope they have midge repellent and cover up..
