Leisurely morning, Tony cooked eggs, mushrooms , tomatoes and chips for brunch, then got the train into the city, very posh triple decker, electric, so clean and quite.
Locals all very helpful, speak mixture of French and English.
We walked to Information site, Got local map, had lunch in Place d'Armes watching the people, everywhere seemed so quite and calm. Walked to the palmistry Grand - Ducal, then on to souvenir shop where shop assistant told us the history of the Palace and royalty attached.
Grandmother of current Duke, who fled to safety to America in 2nd world war, used radio broadcasts to keep spirits up in her Nazi occupied homeland.
From there we went to the Cathedral with all its stained glass windows. On our walk in over the viaduct bridge we looked down into the massive tiered gardens of Valley de la Petrusse. So went down for walk on way back to train station.
Many stone steps down all part of ancient city, passing a skate park and children's playground under the viaduct. Walk on and half way up came to ancient church Chapel Saint Quirin , carved out of and into the rock cliff, still with statues in side.
Up more steps to top of viaduct and another wall with a plaque saying Fort Walls atop a small metal door.
On way back to station wentt into Carrefour express for few bits. Successfully caught train home changing at Bettenburg. Helpful young local helped with directions when we got off the train.
Joint cook tonight nachos, yummy.
