Mon 10 April 11° Lucca

Chat with Pat and Les last night before they set off i  Ruby 2, their motorhome,  to Seville. We have mail in Lincoln, Jenna and Alex to NZ for Hayley and Glen's Wedding, so rang Ena and got that sorted.

Decided Bessie was OK where we are so didn't go to the camp, short 5 mins  walk to the old city and in through Portability Elisa.  Into the I site for map to be told here was a G7 Simmit meeting goes today and a large part of the old city was closed off. She showed us where we could go so set off starting with a walk up on top of the city walls,  very wide road and walkway. Lots of cyclists here and none wear helmets.  The wall is 4km we walked about half way, got good shot of garden with statues and fountain from up here and came down at the Basilica di S. Frediano  which had a gathering of tourists already, we came back here later for lunch.

The main Piazza Anfiteatro was surrounded with shops,  restaurants and cafés.

Enjoyed a free truffle tasting, not the fresh ones as between seasons, but processed with various flavours, used with pastas and on crackers or meat dishes.

Then on to Torrens Guinigi, 230 steps and 50m high, I volunteerd to be bag lady, so we had a galvanising rather strong Italian coffee before Tony paid his senior rate €3 to do the climb to the top, where he got some good photos for his efforts.

On through the myriad of cobbled lanes with shops, restaurants, cafés and ice cream shops,  yep had to sample their wares,  yummy, very creamy €1.20 for a piccolo  (small).
The Torrens Dell forested and museum showing paintings by Leonardo di Vinci...spot skipper  (thinking of doing a separate folder on Spot Skipper...haha).

Came across a UK newsreader doing a broadcast on the G7 meeting, they were by the water fountain where people, including me, we're filling their water bottles.

The police presence was building now and when we left the gate at Porta Elisa was blocked by armed Polizia...good security.

20° at 4pm strolled back to Bessie, stopping at several of the many park benches around to watch the people and different sites at the city walls.

When we got back and had a refreshing cuppa, we thought we heard what sounded like protests be interesting to hear the news...if only we could the satalite to pick up a TV channel.  Never mind we have BBC on our tablets so will get updates there.

Great day in Lucca, bought mini Pizza pre dinner snack, then fish and chips with salad for dinner with a cool beer.
