A 'rook'd' awakening thus morning, thought we heard someone tapping at the door 7.30.......opened the blinds to have a look and a large black rook flew away. Then a lady came with huge bag of bread, seeds and scoop of bird food and scattered it several places to feed the birds.
A very grey day so perfect day yesterday for the magical castle.
Drove to Donauworth, with reportedly the most beautiful main Street in southern Germany/ Bavaria. The glockenspiel plays at 11am each day, The Sun Must Shine from the Magic Fiddle opera.
Past more fields of Solar Panels, into the town, no parking...drove out and turned round to circulate back, just as we were abusing them for not catering for motorhomes, we saw a sign Park bus and motorhome...great Aire, free ,with services for up to 5 days. We parked and walked into town, got some tasty cheese from the market and best fresh bread and rolls from bakery.
Took video of the glockenspiel bit disappointing really, back to Bessie had cuppa, drove on to Church of Holy Cross which supposedly has part of Christ's cross housed there and Pilgrims visit.....noticed one of Bessie's hub caps missing.......!
Harburg Castle on the hill.
On to Dinklesbuhl, Aire and car park with services, short walk to town, ....and then the rain came, but even so probably one of the prettiest towns so far.
Lovely painted houses and shops, with Gothic Cathedral that supposedly has the Holy of Holiest housed 12m high. Reportedly the most beautiful Gothic church in Germany.
Drove to site for the night at Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Massive car park €10 some with services, near old city wall. Rain stopped and it fined up so we decided to do the night tour with the Night Watchman €8 each. Had pork stir fry for dinner with yummy triangle fresh bread from Donauworth, delicious. Motorhomes kept arriving very popular place.
Rugged up and walked into old city for tour. Sun came out, glorious evening, so glad we decided to do the tour.
Very entertaining and well spoken Night Watchman with good sense of humour. Very informative of Rothenburg s amazing history. Recomend Google the history of Rothenburg. At one point he was talking about the rats bringing the plague and Tony said is that how they got the 'Rathous' ( council building) he got a real jig out of him ...no non....but then he laughed and said could be there are some in there hahaha.
Definately a highlight and would recommend.
