Our first alfresco dinner last night 22° and sunset 7.30 for coffee outside. Met very helpful German family, next door, gave us lots of info on Cinque Terre, Brenner Pass and app for free sites all over Europe.
One very good facility they have here and noticed in Austria, they have a dog play area, fenced off so they can mix and mingle, with a picnic table and chairs for the owners. Very good socialisation for their dogs. There was one opposite where we sat outside, it was fun watching the comings and goings to see which dogs were accepted and which had a few barks.
Shop this morning at the co op for supplies as getting bit low, first shop in Italy, took ages trying to decifer what things were and which milk was which. Prices not too bad for a co-op.
Surprising amount of traffic for a Sunday, but lovely day for a drive out for their Sunday lunch. We start to climb again...can't away from those mountains....
Got diesel €1.32 best price we have seen in Italy, most have been up over €1.40. It was self service and our first attempt it accepted our card yea success. Got €40 worth 30 ltrs.
Through a tunnel 1. 7km long - you were right Barbara- lots of tunnels, over an amazing bridge at least 2km long above a river and houses then thru another tunnel 820m and another 280m.
Through many pretty villages up so high. After lunch at a dissapointing rubbish strewn lay by, yet another tunnel 1,116m. Then slowly winding downhill again, a village at 470m La Cigna with lots off people arriving for Sunday lunch at restaurant with great views, but very hazy for photo. Then we passed over a railway track right up here, lots of houses some like villa's with orchards, these mountains are certainly very scenic. Northern Apennines.
Arrived in Lucca and drove round to find our free site in municipal car park, it was full of cars but there was another car park to the side but not sure if this was the right place, no sign. So drove off and around but nothing else so came back, we asked a lady if ok she said no problem. So stayed but car park got checker block full with cars, People off out somewhere, some with dogs, some with large water bottles, others carrying blankets. Googled what's on in Lucca, but nothing came up, but we very curious, but we were settled in now enjoying our newly purchased Rose`. The cars started leaving again an hour later, so we didn't miss much.
Decided to go to campsite in the morning and spend the day in old city. We did contemplate going to Pisa, but reviews very dissapointing and Tony has been there before, so decided to give it a miss.
Real Italian spaghetti tonight with all fresh Italian ingredients, delicious with the rose`, well done again skipper......I will definitely keep him on haha.
