Tues 18 Apr 9° Lake Garda to Gargazzone

We left on a cool morning after 4 great days rest and some warm sun to charge our batteries. €55.20 all services included, didn't use diesel or lpg so pretty good 4 days holiday.

Past the large theme parks like Disney land and Gold Coast, a constant stream of traffic and motorhomes coming this way, so we are on the right side of the road,  literally..haha.

Best roads and probably most scenic route so far as we follow the lake north. Hotels all the way, boats,  restaurants and colourful little villages. None of it commercial and all very quaint and old, obviously very popular tourist/holiday area.

Long tunnels here, 2.5km half of which had the outside open to the lake side, the rest dug out through the rocky hills.

End of the lake now, apartments and houses at this end as we start to climb. The traffic is bumper to bumper all the way ahead at a slow crawl, winding up can see lorries, motorhomes and cars up above us.

Decided to pull over for early lunch to see if it clears......great view from here so not all bad, the beauty of being in a motorhome.

Fed watered and traffic just like that...started to thin,  so we joined in again and continued up and around, then down a bit and it flattened out as we came to Trento and Lake Tabineto.

Since leaving glorious Garda we have seen volumous vineyards, holiday hotels, craggy cliffs,, terrible traffic and tremendous tunnels....and another 620m another 360m and another 1.5km which had 2 lanes one way, traffic in other direction had their own tunnel.

Over the river into Trento to our site which was just a car park...not inspiring and still early so we decided to drive to plan B.....just because we can to Bolzano, south Tyrol.

Got diesel at €1.37 €40 for 29ltrs.

Very strong winds and vineyards,  vineyards everywhere....but not a drop to drink...until later heehee.

Ancient castle appeared perched on an protruding rock just out of Trento, into another tunnel 998m, then 1325m, then a very long 2859m followed straight after by a 2451m the last one at 940m. Astounding amount of work has gone into all this tunnelling, amazing.

Plan B full...so onto Plan C at Gargazzone...past lots of apple orchards , when we arrived at our site it was a rough grass field in an apple Orchard,  lots of motorhomes,  very popular.  Met our German neighbours who said it was €10 , search for sites said it was free....not to worry, not going anywhere now. They said a weather pattern from the north is hitting Germany with Snow!!!! Thought it was a cold wind...Fusson on Thursday is snow and -9°.......plan d,e, f, g....replan,  rethink, eeekkkk.

OK after a calming glass of rose' we studied maps, weather forecasts etc and hatched a plan.

Back to Bolzano, early to get a park.....Look around the medieval town which was plan A and wait till Friday after the worst of the weather has gone. Hopefully........all plans subject to change....

Bessie getting blown around a bit, but salmon steaks and hot vegetables and chips for dinner, yummy.
