Mon 24 April 9° Wurzburg

Relaxing morning before pleasant walk along the river Main and accross the old Main bridge with its 12 statues, reminiscent of a bridge in Prague.

We walked to the Palace and into the gardens, glorious tulips and trees in blossom

1pm got the City Train a tourist bus that is made to look like a train €8 each with English commentary.

The sun  was now out and very warm, we had lunch in the square and peeled off our layers after the chilly start this morning.

Stopped on the old Bridge for a local Silvana wine, people were just buying their wine and taking it out into the sunshine on the bridge. Very pleasant atmosphere,  1 in 5 of the population are students, this is a university town.

A unique wine to Wurzburg is box bottle wine, several varieties and the bottle is  square version similar to Mateuse Rose. Famous for Rieseling and Muller Thurgau that popular in NZ in the 1980s. We bought a Gold medal Rieseling,  Kabinett,  Tockenham  €3.99 on special.

Back to Bessie and our Belgian neighbours had their chairs out enjoying  a wind in the sun. We joined them and had good conversation about places to go, motorway driving and the Romantic Road, they were just starting.  They drove 5 hours here from Antwerp on the mot7, no lorries on a Sunday,  otherwise can be pretty hairy driving surrounded by big lorries.

Chicken schnitzel and fresh vegetables combo from the market,
