Pouring with rain again, post office 1m walk so went to get a stamp, Long queue, when I eventually got to the counter, he took a 10 min phone call.......more huffing and puffing, big queue behind me. €1.70 paid and posted, done!
Set off up steep 13% gradient to Leon.....several steep gradients in fact, up into a snow topped mountain in fact...all this talk of warm sun is far over rated, let's just climb another mountain and find some snow.....sang climb every mountain which made us think of sister Fiona who sang it at our wedding.
Saw the pellegriono sign for walking the Camino....wow what a walk up and over a mountain...it seems there are several roads to Santiago de Compostela. 17% gradient summit of 1378m, a real winter wonderland with sign for skiing. Also a railway right at the top here, lots of tunnels thriugh the mountains amazing engineering.
Sunshine on way down with the golden leaves on the trees very pretty after the white snow, stopped at large sign and took photo of Tony with his pack on 'walking' .....tell him he's dreaming! haha
Big black Bull sculpture on the hill and the red earth along the roads as in Devon.
Arrived 3pm, another good size car park with hugs motorhome /truck bays, we walkedwe into the old town to the Castile de Templarios, medieval12th century castle of the Knights of the Templars. Mostly ruins but huge renovations to form new exhibition centre I half the old castle. Free entry on Wednesday....yeah we have had a win....This castle was a holy half way house for pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela.
Walked on through town to museum also free, everything is free on Wednesday, Closed at 6pm so just a quick look around the ground floor, got a photo of a painting.
Spanish Omelet, red peppers, aubergines, courgettes and fried potatoes for dinner.....yummy.
