Fri 29 Dec day out in Albufeira

Today we drove with Jenna and Alex down to the Algarve coast to Albufeira.

Cool breeze and fog as we started out, but the sun came out nearer the coast and we found a park in the cobbled lanes of the old town.

Looked in lots of shops for a souvenir for Jenna and Alex, he was very patient as we browsed many shops for ages.

We walked down to the beach, through markets and shops which were very tourist oriented, still quite a few tourists around, a great winter escape for those further north.

Golden sand beaches, and lots of British type restaurants,  we walked back a bit away from the beach area and found a Portuguese restaurant,  owned and run  by an Irish ex pat and his Portuguese wife. He told us that everything was made fresh in the traditional way by the Portuguese chef.

I was going to have the baby squid, but his description of the traditional fish pie changed my mind. It was delicious, Jenna and Tony had the baby squid which was equally delicious, Alex had chicken and chips which he enjoyed.  We had a jug of white sangria, made from scratch with 7 liqueurs and chocker block full of fresh fruit.

We gave in to the deserts, again all freshly made by hand, Jenna and I shared one made with condenced milk and Alex and Tony shared the chocolate cake...yummy €44 .

We then walked back to the beach, they had an ice cream I had a hot coffee.

Then back to the car, the sun was settings so we drove see if we get a better view, down to the harbour and saw pastel coloured painted houses.

Drove on with the sunset behind  us and arrived to the dogs waiting for us.
