Our drive to Clovelly along narrow roads where we had a very, very close encounter with a transit van, sqeeking thru the hedge very slowly, the driver said we should have got a smaller one .....no damage done except to our nerves and stress levels.
Back into Devon, fortunately the visitors centre not far along the narrow road, huge car park obviously get lots of visitors and bus loads. £7.50 each which includes parking and a film on the history of the 2500 year old fishing village. People still live and work in the village and it is recommended to wear sensible shoes as lots and lots of cobblestone paths down steep streets to the port.
Tony was here 43 years ago with his sister Prue and his Dad on a surprise visit when Tony was on his big OE.
Bumping along the roads out with huge pot holes and 20° now on the way to Ilfracombe. Steep narrow winding roads down into the centre of town to the car park which has 4 motorhome parks. A boat regatta had just finished, trailers and long boats blocking the 1 place left. After a great job and reversing and maneuvering into a tight space we got in £1 after 6pm till 8am. Very tight but right in the centre and 5min walk to harbour.
The boat crews came and put their longboat on ,finished for the day.
We walked into town, up another very steep hill to buy a lettuce, down again to walk along the harbour found the oldest pub in Ilfracombe, cold beer was calling.
Pork and salad for dinner and a cold beer. Then Tony went back to pub to watch the rugby while I did the blog and some planning from here to get us to the ferry to Ireland. Poor couple in van lost their car keys at the beach had to wait 4 hours for someone to come to open it. Offered them a cuppa tea but they thanked us and declined. Noisy Sat night in town,
