Fri 7 July 17° Cliffs of Moher to Craughwell nr Galway

Left at 9am as requested half a dozen other motorhomes still there....the constant bumping and juddering has made the locker lock move and difficult to lock and unlock. A grey cloudy day but not cold.

The fields are quite wild,  unkempt not pasture but rocks, bushes, wild flowers, cows and bulls grazing in this natural landscape with rock and stone walls to keep them off the roads. Maybe that's why Irish milk is so rich and creamy. 12% gradient ssssnaking down towards Galway Bay, roads so narrow we are driving over the cats eyes, bumping along probably ok for a car but not for wide vehicles. It's a shame as the road surface is actually good along here.

Stopped for diesel €1.19 €30 for 25 ltrs at Kirvana. Then welcome relief for a while past Kilrenny Castle.

After a very rough drive into Craughwell, the entrance to the coach/car park was very narrow, we only just made it, we found out later from Gerry the manager, there is a wide back entrance....signage very poor though would not have found it.

Gas locker well stuck now and wouldn't open, but after some banging and juggling it did, so Tony took it apart to see if it had slipped and the parts fell out. He went in to ask Gerry if there was a locksmith in the village....so he got 2 good men to come out and have a look.  One had a friend 5 mins  away who would come down if we got stuck. Very kind and friendly.  We managed to work out how to get all the springs and plastic bits back together,  but it still wouldn't turn, so decided it must be the barrel, so will have to make do with one lock only till we can it replaced.

Gerry said we could get a bus into Galway, so after lunch we walked up to the bus stop but a young lady said they are very infrequent and €6 one way for student and takes 45 mins. Said better to drive in. So we walked back down to the village,  bought a newspaper and and thick rich creamy ice cream €1.50 which we shared and back to Bessie.

Relaxed this afternoon before dinner in the pub. Breakfast at 9.30 tomorrow for the Rugby which starts at 8.30....he said it would be busy.

He said we could go and watch the sport golf was on and was happy to change channel for whatever Tony wanted, how kind and very welcoming.  He said Rory McIlroy owns a small castle nearby, he married the American girl who woke him up for his golf tournament  when his slept in, he was so impressed with her action.
