Thunder and rain last night but cosy with our delicious creamy, smooth Chardonnay from Chardonnay in France. What a lot we have seen and done since we bought that bottle.
Fine dry day dawned for our short hop to Lake Windermere the largest lake in England. Under a canopy of large green, leafy trees along the route with stone walls both sides of the narrow winding road. Old stone buildings from time to time along the way with rocky mountains high behind. Then we saw it .......Kirkstone Pass 20% gradient...with road works on the already narrow roads the climb was 820m.
Terrible roads surface coming into Windermere, free park at viewing point but decided to go on to a camp nearby. When we arrived there was another couple waiting in front, it was not open till 1pm, so had a chat to them, then had lunch while we waited.
We hadn't booked and there was only 1 pitch left, thank you very much, she asked if we had an age consseion which we didn't, but we do now and it saved us £6.....so £23.65 a night all services, last day today of the mid season, from tomorrow it is high season so we were very lucky there.
Walked into the town very quaint, harbour town with boat rides on the lake, largest in England. Lots of tourists, mostly Asian but all good for business.
After the obligatory ice cream, we walked back to camp and put a load of washing on £3.50 and £1 for 20 mins dryer x 2 , so our concession paid for our washing.
Good hot showers, with hairdryer.
Spag bowl for dinner.
