Forgot to mention the 100 stone steps at Blarney not really a castle, more of a tower with rooms off a very steep, narrow spiral stairway that got narrower as you got higher, felt a bit like Alice in wonderland der land getting bigger and everything around getting smaller, like being squeezed through a corkscrew. Only because of the numbers of people did you have to keep going up...then the looking down omg absolutely no way was I going to bend over backwards and upside down.....but Tony had to get his Blarney fix, so now back running on full blarney power, haha.
Hot showers this morning in the hotel gym and spa, towels and toiletries supplied...very nice.... Gave Tony a haircut and beard trim neat and tidy again.
Slight drizzle as we head on past more colourful painted houses, flags out for 4th July American celebrations for independence day.
Once again a very bumpy trip on the very Wild Atlantic Way. Hazy mist over the hills, rocks jutting out of the fields...west coast SI similarly rugged in parts. Roads improved..phewwww relief..no bone jarring for while.....but not for long..... Up in the clouds we go hardly any visibility...somewhere out there Sceilg mhichil.....somewhere it's in the mist jutting out of the Atlantic ocean.
Lunch stop at Waterville lookout......not today folks.....even bus loads have pulled in but unlucky today.
So we bumped our way along the wild Atlantic Way, around the ring if kerry. The sun tried to break through the mist, starting to clear as we wind our way down ......bliss after Glenbeigh ....whisper quiet smooth roads...ahhhhhhhh...until on the way out of Killorglin. back to the bad surfaces..give them their due though there are major roadworks repairing large areas along the route, so are doing their best to improve it.
Into Tralee, a great Lidl right on the corner for our supplies, then half an hour down the road to Fenit harbour for our stop for tonight, free car park with toilet block and a pub. Fenit is a harbour port used for unloading heavy machinery , and car park next to a children's play area, so a bit noisy by day, but hey its free with toilets.....and a lovely view over Tralee bay...what's not to like. An Irish man in a 9m motorhome parked in front of us said can stay as long you like no problem,,,,,,,lots of swimmers going in he said he swims every day, good swimming beach. I feel a Tony dip coming on haha.
Bruchetta with tomato pesto and olives with a Guinness Dublin Porter for starters, salmon for me sausages for Tony with 'sweet potato ' our orange kumera and vegetables.
