Mon 3 July 14° Cobh to Sneem ring of Kerry

Met motorhomers who lived in Tauranga for 2 years, Margaret and Sil, live in Limerick and gave us address and phone number if we get there and want to call in for dinner. Very kind. We walked along the harbour to the Titanic museum and statue dedicated to the Irish who sailed to New York in search of a better life, 3 million people.

Came back had lunch and just as we were leaving Margaret and Sil came back from  town with a map for us,  very kind and thoughtful.

Drove off Cobh island on our way to Blarney Castle,  got a fill of diesel  €1.17 €49 for 42 ltrs.

Been in touch with friends from NZ visiting Ireland arranged to meet at Gerry's place in Lanesboro on Sunday,  they are over for a wedding. Be good to catch up haven't seen them since they moved from London to Greymouth in South Island.

Terrible roads into Blarney Castle.

Bit late leaving at 4pm with 3 hour drive along ring of Kerry to Sneem eta 7pm !

Terrible roads in every way, surface, narrow, winding, branches whipping side of motorhome,  large rock walls jutting out.....and too late to be doing it really after a long day. The scenery may be lovely but the roads are definately not!

Care needed when opening overhead lockers, Contents may have shifted in course of bumpy,  juddery roads, whole lot of shakeing going on......uh huh...

Through Killarney,  traffic delays, and into Killarney National Park,  very narrow roads,  poor Bessie, got a bit of a whipping from branches, and poor Tony trying to dodge bumps, cats eys, ferrel cat in bush, rocks and on coming traffic.....eeekkkk    not pleasant driving, nice scenery but not the driving conditions.  Snake bends for much of the way making for a very slow drive.  stopped at lookout point Ladies View, Killarney Lakes now on the Wild Atlantic Way to Sneem.

Arrived at Sneem Hotel, very upmarket hotel with huge car park,  with use of showers and gym, sauna and spa €10 a night.

Now 8.20pm quick cook up of the pork burgers from the farm at Cardigan with onions,  mushrooms, tomatoes and chips.  Quick and easy with a shot of Jameson for the roads. Slanche.
